SGM, Lewis McCaskill 85, of Raeford, transition on Wednesday, February 25,2026 at Richmond County Hospice Haven.

He attended the historic Peabody High School in Troy, North Carolina. After leaving school he was inducted into the United States Army where he completed high school at Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake, WA. He continued his education at Johnston Technical Institute, Fayetteville Technical Community College, and Montgomery Community College.

He served his country honorably in the United States Army for Thirty years, retiring in July 1986, Sergeant Major Lewis D. McCaskill's awards and decorations are; BRONZE STAR MEDAL(2ND OAK LEAF CLUSTER), AIR MEDAL, ARMY COMMENDATION MEDAL(2ND OAK LEAF CLUSTER), ARMY GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL(8TH AWARD), NATIONAL DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL, VIETNAM SERVICE MEDAL(1-6), ARMY SERVICE RIBBON(4), OVERSEES SERVICE BARS(4), VIETNAM CAMPAIGN MEDAL, VIETNAM CROSS OF GALLANTRY W, PLAM .

SGM Lewis D. McCaskill  is survived by his son Lewis D. McCaskill, Jr. of Massachusetts and daughter, Christa McCaskill of Massachusetts and host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
